Wisdom and Understanding

(Proverbs 14:29-34) [He that is] slow to wrath [is] of great understanding: but [he that is] hasty of spirit exalteth folly. A sound heart [is] the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones. He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor. The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death. Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but [that which is] in the midst of fools is made known. Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin [is] a reproach to any people.

(Proverbs 15:21-26) Folly [is] joy to [him that is] destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly. Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established. A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word [spoken] in due season, how good [is it]! The way of life [is] above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath. The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow. The thoughts of the wicked [are] an abomination to the LORD: but [the words] of the pure [are] pleasant words.

(Proverbs 3:13-20) Happy [is] the man [that] findeth wisdom, and the man [that] getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it [is] better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She [is] more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days [is] in her right hand; [and] in her left hand riches and honour. Her ways [are] ways of pleasantness, and all her paths [are] peace. She [is] a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy [is every one] that retaineth her. The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.

(Proverbs 2:6) For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth [cometh] knowledge and understanding.

(Jeremiah 51:15, 16) He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heaven by his understanding. When he uttereth [his] voice, [there is] a multitude of waters in the heavens; and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth: he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.

(Psalm 147:5-8) Great [is] our Lord, and of great power: his understanding [is] infinite. The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground. Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God: Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.
